Why a Blog?

I have been making miniatures mainly in 1/12th scale and have opened a Blog so that I can show others what I have made and what I am busy with and find out what others think of the miniatures that I make. I especially love making things look pretty with lace and wonderful special trimmings. I made a box bed that I 'prettied' up for my little great niece who turned 8 and she just loves it. As can be seen I also like to delve into smaller scales now and again and I made a Cake Shop in a Matchbox - I intend to make a Shopping Centre of Matchbox shops - the next one in line is a Hat Shop so keep watching this blog! If you are following my blog you will see that I have completed the second matchbox shop - hmmm now I need to decide on what my next matchbox shop will be....

Well I decided to make some really small lounge suites and then a little house to put it in and Viola! A little crooked house.

I think I must have been born loving miniatures, anything small and cute. I remember loving those little plastic mini silver tutu'd ballerina's that adorned, I am sure, many a little girl's birthday cake as well as those little plastic charms that every little girl and boy used to collect, many years ago.

When I started working at Standard Bank's Stationery and Printing Department in Salt River, books and forms were still set up using little metal die's that used to be housed in 'printers trays' - hence the 'printers trays' we all know it today. Many years later when Standard Bank closed down their Printing and Stationery Department, we as staff were allowed to purchase the drawers (printer's trays) that used to house the printing die's. I have 2 of those original drawer's in my home, filled with 'tiny' collections of all sorts collected over the years.

Dec 2009 - So sad, but our two older pooches, Ma-tsu and Sandy have been sent to Doggy Heaven. So now we are left with only two - Patch and Zoe.

Jan 2010 - At the Miniature Guild that I belong to in Cape Town, we have been working on a project for our 2010 Annual Mini Spring Fair to be held on the 4th September at St Thomas Church Hall in Rondebosch. The project is a crescent of houses. The houses have been made in such a way that when placed next to each other they form a crescent. We are all choosing how to decorate the windows, doors and interior, but have kept the outside brickwork, pavement and roof similar to each other to make the houses/shops look as if they belong together. I am hoping that everyone who partook in this project will have their houses/shops ready to put on a wonderful show for the public.

October 2010 - Our Annual Spring Fair has come and gone and what a fabulous Fair it was - We had people come through the hall all day and the vibe was, as usual, fantastic. We had new seller's this year - from KZN. Knysna and Magaliesburg. The displays were outstanding and our main project of the year was the Crescent House project was displayed on tables made specially cut to house these houses which were made so that the back 'open side' was slightly larger than the fronts so that when placed side by side they formed an arch or crescent shaped front. Guild members did such a marvellous job at decorating and filling their houses - there was a dentist, a baby shop, a pub with a watchmaker upstairs, a tea room, a pet shop etc etc. Folk were fascinated by all the displays which included smaller works right down to 144th scale goodies.

30 May 2011 - yes a long time has elapsed since I last posted anything to my blog and a lot has transpired. On 26th March we had our Annual Miniatures Auction which was a stunning success. Then on the 28th. 29th and 30th we had our 2nd Miniature Convention which is held in beautiful Betty's Bay - I unfortunately could not attend the 1st Convention but after going to the 2nd will recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all and just concentrate on having fun and making miniatures - we made mini's to our hearts content, had wonderful teachers, excellent accommodation, fabulous food and the best company ever! On the 1st day I had signed up to make a mini fairy teddy bear with Anna Braun and I most definately was not dissapointed - on the 2nd day I made the most gorgeous Provence four poster bed with Rosemarie Evans - on the 3rd and last day, I made a Pewter fireplace with Belinda McWilliams as well as a pair of leather Mary Jane Shoes. I will load photographs to share asap.
Now to get a move on and make items to sell at our Annual Spring Fair which is on the 3rd September this year.
